The most classic and haunting film made about helium balloons is the 1956 short film "Le Ballon rouge" (The Red Balloon) which is a masterpiece about a young boy following a balloon around the streets of Paris. If you have never seen this film...rent the DVD...cos it will change your life. It leaves a lasting impression on anybody who see it. This is one of the 2 most memorable French productions shown on UK tv many times in the 1960's (the other one being, the classic French tv series in 1965 "The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe").

By AnthonyX - anthonyx@jowc.net Wed 30/06/04 00:49:05 GMT The funny thing about it is that the "guy flying in a lawn chair carried by helium balloons" is...
1. An urban legend 2. Immortalized by something known as the "Darwin Awards" 3. Actually based on a true event
I do find it curious to see a whole movie inspired by such a story.
In case you are wondering, the "Darwin Awards" is a tongue-in-cheek look at the stupid things some people do. The name comes from the notion that their own stupidity will lead some people to do things which ultimately get themselves killed, thereby selecting themselves out of the gene pool. Try a google search to see some other examples.

In reply to Message (10907) Movie Alert: "Danny Deckchair"
By Anonymous - Mon 28/06/04 16:00:38 GMT Website: http://www.apple.com/trailers/lions_gate/danny_deckchair/ Was at the movies today and a trailer came on for an upcoming comedy called "Danny Deckchair." My eyes popped open when towards the end of the trailer there was an awesome fountain scene with people in dresses jumping in (with AMAZING wet hair aftermath for you hair people!) The above link goes to the trailer. Enjoy!! |
