After my initial digging on this mystery pic we were discussing..
http://www.vintagewet.com/wfa/scrap2/mp/a09/v93534.jpg
Roger was able to match this pic with ANOTHER mystery pic he had in his collection...that he did not know either...and guess what he found...the pics are from the SAME scene with the SAME girl. Roger just sent me this scan of his mystery pic...I believe you already had a low quality version of this someplace on your site...but here is a much higher quality scan for you....getta aloada this...I uploaded this to my server....grab it for your site..

As you can see...same girl...same outfit....and this pic is even better...the perfect cling effect for wetlook (reminds me of the Glynnis Johns scene from the 1955 movie THE BEACHCOMBER....and very similar to the even better Jane Wyman scene from the 1940 Ronald Reagan movie TUGBOAT ANNIE SAILS AGAIN...that took me 10 years to find a copy of that film).
Anyway...so this latest pic seals it...I will let you know when the tape arrives...I just ordered it yesterday.

Do you know of another movie dbase that does?
Thats a whole lot harder to do. The other movie...we knew it was a film released in 1947 by United Artists....so it was simple matter of wading thru loads of old Variety magazines and United Artists releases for one year only. For that mystery "Ozarks" film...we have no idea what year the film was released in. All we know is that is cannot be any earlier than 1942 (when Ozarks was released) but it could be any film released at any time in the mid to late 40s. According to his bio....Joe E Brown was under contract to Warner Brothers....so I would start by focusing on Warner Brothers releases in the 1940's.
BTW....you can do a "power search" on IMDB that can list you movies by year etc...but for the studio who released them...you have to wade thru a History of Warner Brothers book at the library.
good luck Mark

In reply to Message (15094) for JJ - mystery vintage pics....we got one

JJ...we have not only idenitified one of your mystery pics...I have found it on tape too..
We found this one I previously quoted
http://www.vintagewet.com/wfa/scrap2/mp/a09/v93534.jpg Another great pic from a mystery film we cannot identify...i.e. who is this actress?...it's on the tip of me !!! .... The only clues we have are...the copyright notice on the pic...i.e. it was a United Artists film released in 1947.
A movie buff friend of mine who has old Variety magazines and countless books on films, was able to research all United Artists films made in 1947...and by process of elimination....we narrowed it down to one film and one actress....i.e. that is MARIE WILSON from the 1947 film THE FABULOUS JOE
As evidence...here is a pic of Marie and you can see the resemblence http://www.skylighters.org/photos/pinups/mariewilson3.jpg
As more evidence...read the synopsis for the film here...it clearly mentions her getting pushed into the lake http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0039366/plotsummary
And the best news is....I thought this film would be impossible to find on video....but I just found a site that has it on VHS...and have ordered a copy....so I will let you know when the tape comes in.
This was great sleuthing work by a friend of mine...
Now.....if ONLY we can do the same thing...and try and figure out who this actor or actress is from this other mystery pic...
http://www.vintagewet.com/wfa/scrap2/mp/a08/v93524.jpg
and then maybe we can nail this one too...
