a) often the mud they are wading thru is very watery, and

b) there is lots to see at the outdoor showers were everybody hoses off.

FYI...more interesting than Camp Pendleton (cos thats a one time event only taking place at one venue), are the "Muddy Buddy" organizations's events...which are held in many cities in the USA and Canada too. You can browse loads of pics from their events via their website here...

FYI, a friend of mine attended the Muddy Buddy events in San Jose California last year, and he sent me about 70 mins of his camera footage. I had not released that tape yet, cos I was waiting to fill up the tape with some other stuff added to it. Basically though...the U.S. events yield load of mud and wet scenes...if you are interested in sports gear, leggings and pants etc....but alas....none of the u.s. events are in fancy dress or formal attire....

To see folks in fancy dress, nurses and school uniforms in the mud and water, etc....you need to go to the UK to see the famous MALDON MUD RUN. You can see loads of their photos on their website here...

Of course the best place to go for these kinds of events (cos they take place for several days here) are the famous "Gata-Lympics" (mud olympics) events held for several days each May in Kashima City Japan. There you will see full "costume play" girls in the mud and showers....each team has a theme costume...e.g. flight attendants, nurses, sailor moon girls, schoolgirls etc, and all the events take place on the beach...which is a tidal area with mud, just like some of the uk tidal areas. I have often wanted to spend a week at these events in May in Japan....but the tricky bit is...it is not easy to find hotel rooms...cos this event is attended by over 25,000 participants and many foreign teams of girls from Australia, Germany and places like Hawaii too. It's like the Dragon Boat races in Hong Kong....many teams from around the world participate too....and it is virtually impossible to find a hotel room in Kashima unless you are with a team yourself.
