Wetlook is at least 3000 years old, and probably much older! See Sex in the Ancient World: Egypt on the History Channel. It was on this evening and they'll have repeat showings. The wetlook starts at about 45 minutes in.

They reenacted scenes from ancient egypt featuring a woman walking out of the water in a tight linen dress. They even put the image on the cover of their dvd:
