A couple of days ago, a group of German students were on the beach, close to the water's edge. I would say that thet were about 17 years old. There was one girl and three boys. The girl had blonde hair and was wearing a black and white striped top, black short skirt and black cardigan. She waded out ahead of the boys, up to her knees. I felt she wanted to go deeper. She kept looking back at the boys, who came no closer to her than ankle depth. They then started to walk back to shore. The girl followed and kicked water at one of the boys, clearly wanting to be splashed back. Eventually, after being splashed three times, the boy kicked water at her and then....ran away! What an idiot! She chased him for a little with a handful of wet sand but he managed to evade her. She then walked purposefully up the beach to her friends, removed her cardigan and walked back towards the water, looking at the group of boys all the time. Again she waded out in to the sea, up to the knees, alone this time. She clearly wanted to get wet, having removed her cardigan, and continued to look at one of the boys over her shoulder almost constantly. He ignored and chatted with his friends! She then waded out of the water and rejoined her friends. What a waste!

Yesterday, the weather was cold, wet and windy. I saw  a group of six English girls walk on to the beach, all wearing waterproof coats and most were wearing wellington boots. Two of the girls were wearing flip flops,one with black jeans rolled up to just below the knee, the other was wearing black leggings. The group waded into the sea to take photographs of themselves in the shallows. The two girls had removed their flip flops and were jumping around, eventually playing in thigh-deep water. As they came off the beach I got a nice look and it just reminded me again that, even on the worst days, all is not lost in the great Brtish summer! I don't think that there has been a time that I have been to the beach this summer when something like this has not happened.
