Here in the U.S. CNN (and other news outlets) have been focusing a lot on this homeless pedophile who takes photos of children in public places and posts them to his sick blog. Unfortunately, many concerned moms remember this which resulted in a VERY UNPLEASANT experience for me at a local swimming hole where I was taking a few photos of the clothed people swimming in the Malibu Creek Rocks Pools. A very irate, loud and rude lady stormed up to me and demanded that I give her my camera so she would delete pictures of her children (there were non). When I refused, she claimed that she had called the police and that she would break my camera. Other concerned (and angry people) started muttering and giving me dirty looks. I look off because the situation became very hostile but know she had not phoned the police because there were was no cell phone reception at that place. The ironic thing was that while I do understand her need to protect her children, I probably would have allowed her to look at my camera and delete ones that happen to contain her kids. However, her rude, confrontational demeanor towards me naturally precluded my cooperating with her. When she said she called the cops, I said, "Fine, let's wait for them to arrive." but she continued to demand my camera in hostile language. No thank you.
If you want to see the photos that caused all the ruckus, please see:

and older albums taken at the same location at:

While children may appear in the albums, they were NOT my focus NOR intention for taking the pictures! I just wanted to capture regular clothed people of all types having fun in the water.
Object of lesson: Be VERY CONCERNED AND HESITANT about taking photos of people getting wet in public venues.

In reply to Message (31054) police stop and search being used on wetlook fans
By Arthur Chappell - arthur@chappell7300.freeserve.co.uk Wed 22/08/07 15:30:42 GMT Website: http://www.arthurchappell.clara.net/contents.wetlook.htm Police are using their new stop and search rules to challenge single men seen watching people splashing around in open air fountains in case they are showing undue interest in any children using the facilities. I saw a man pulled up and challenged today in Manchester, seemingly picked at random from the crowd - he was even given a statement of having been searched - to my horror, I was punced on immediately he was finished with and told that someone had been taking photos - I don't even have a camera or a camera phone - As I was asked to move on and warned tht i'd be looked out for in future, a third male was immediately targetted too - I have zero interest in kids who get wet - so it was quite intimidating. Wetlook fans watcing any candid open air wetlook activity for adult subjects where kids are even in proximity could face similar hassle or worse - be cautious. AC |
