Hi I can just refer to the german law, but might helpful as well.

Every person on the fotografs has a "copyright" on the appearance of it self. So you need the permit of the person an the image if you wish to publish it. this just dont apply, when the person obiviusly wanted to be seen, as for example protesters, etc. beeing on a public place, like a fountain or public swimming pool is not sufficent!!!

Also the person who actually toke the picture has certain rights as an "artist" (i know sounds silly for most of this shot and run pictures, but legally it is).

But despite this would i like to see the picture ;)

I certainly do not know the legal niceties of this issue. So I am applying logic...dangerous!!

If some one posts to Webshots or equivalent, he/she is "going public" with an image. It is to be assumed that the subject concurs.

But "candids" posted to webshots are another issue, IMO.

Just wondering.

I do a lot of webshots digging myself, but never save the links I get the pics from. I'd like to give something back to the community, so Im thinking of putting a couple of hundred webshots images into a zip file and uploading it for the forum.

Is this legal? Posting links is one thing, but I wanna know if reposting free images like this is legal, and not copyright violation or anything. Just wanna make sure everything is above board :)
