Its an old tradition in the german printingtrade, where all, who pass theyr

tests and become a fully trained printer or machineman get babtised in theire working clothes. Its to wash them free of all the falseness of their apprienteship where they have to knuckle down to the older people and bite their tonge not to upset them. It basicly ends up in a big booze-up at the end.
