Not sure what's behind your question...

Cotton shrinks when it's washed. So, unless you are buying something which has been "pre-shrunk", you have to allow for a certain amount of shrinkage the first time it is washed.

This can be used to advantage by women who want to get a good tight fit from their jeans by wearing them in the bath and (I believe) allowing the jeans to dry on them. Presumably, the jeans will shrink until they take the shape of the wearer.

There is a scene in "La Boum 2" where Sophie Marceau's character is depicted as doing this. The movie was made in 1982, so it's really nothing new.

It´s a really short scene but nice.
