Did you watch it on a potato, Wetcasual? Yes, the girls struggle and try to run away, and cringe when the water hits them, all in accordance with the rules of the game, but they are smiling and there's fun in their eyes - some of them even have the spirit to try to tip the men's buckets back over their assailant. The only one who looked to me as if she might not be enjoying it is the one who is also in traditional dress - but she has the look of one who never smiles. The toss into the stream was maybe not wise - there didn't look to be enough water there to reliably break their fall, though it seemed to turn out all right.

If these guys were randomly roaming the streets in their tumbril or charabanc or whatever it is, grabbing and soaking any woman who has the misfortune to cross their path, I would agree about it being assault (though even when it is done that way, I am sure that it is usually just girls whom the bucketeers know, and know are expecting it, who get the treatment), but this was clearly 'by appointment', with the food and booze all ready.

...I'd say that what we're seeing here would be considered a criminal act (assault) in most Western European countries.
