Actually, you can make your Flickr collection private, accessible only to 'friends'. And indeed there is a private Flickr collection of candid wetlook on British beaches, a similar kind of thing to my own public one but taken from further away with a good camera and zoom lens. That one was public, and linked to on this Forum, originally, but was made private in unknown circumstances; it's fate is part of the reason I am jumpy about anything which might cause the same to happen to other wetlook resources, such as these youtube collections.
I try not to speculate about possible reasons for it having to go private; I worry enough (at least on a bad day) about what I myself get up to making my own collection! I don't think I would be motivated to continue if my collection had to be private; since I have just said that I'm going to take fewer photos and not link to the Forum directly, I find I'm already losing motivation.....
The same with the "anonymous" thing; I would find it a lot less motivating if people didn't know it was the same person doing the things I do. I can't understand what all these "Anonymous" people posting youtube links get out of it - I would want to say "hey look its me again". I don't think they even get nearly as many views, since it feels a bit too much like a pig-in-a-poke; irrational, maybe, but there is certainly a dearth of positive comments on the anonymous postings. And I opened and replied to this post only after I had dealt with a later one by a known nickname, just sort of instinctively.
The down side of having a consistent nick is obviously that people can link up your various posts and point to what they see as double standards, as is happening at the moment, but I can't remember ever happening before. And most people automatically assume that if you're posting anonymously its because you've got something to hide, or are (or intend to be) up to some disruptive activity, so you're probably worse off in terms of esteem doing a 'good' post anonymously than if you had a consistent nick whilst sometimes annoying people. So no, I don't 'hate' anonymous postings, I'm just a bit puzzled by them..... |

By Anonymous - Sun 30/06/19 23:15:40 GMT Unlike Flickr, on youtube you can make your collections private (like I did). And yeah, I know you hate it when people post as "Anonymous" but oh welp. |
In reply to Message (77570) Ban posting of other people's collections
By jollywetfellow - Fri 28/06/19 23:32:44 GMT It seems to me to be wrong in principle to post the youtube (or Flickr, or anything else) collections of other people. These are the personal property of the people concerned; they have their own reasons for the vids they have chosen which are not necessarily the same reasons as those which might make the vids of interest to people on this Forum. If collection owners want them publicised they can post them themselves.
(And before anyone makes fatuous allegations, no, neither of the collections which have recently been posted is mine, but both have been around for a long time and I am confident that they would have been posted here long ago had their owners wanted that to happen.)
